Unhealthy Food Cause Heart Diseases Easily
INFLAMMATION OF THE HEART ARTERIES
During an exclusive interview with Sin Chew Daily, Dato Dr Jeyaindran Sinnadurai spoke about "Diet and inflammation : A Link To Metabolic And Cardiovascular Disease."
In the past 20 years, scientists have been researching the mechanism of the development of atherosclerosis and the effects of food nutrition on the mechanism of the metabolism. From these researches, scientists are able to find out the type of food to eat so that essential nutrients can be absorbed to strengthen the health of the heart.
The best food for cardiovascular protection is the five cereals, vegetables and fruits. High intake of read meat, full cream milk products and sweet food should be avoided.
Scientific research proved that healthy diet plus healthy lifestyle can reduce the risk of heart arteries embolism for as high as 83%. The risk of diabetes in women can be reduced by 91% while risk of colon cancer in men can be as high as 71%. Nevetheless, due to the invasion of western food into our market, the vegetables and fruits intake by people today do not meet their body requirement.
Some scientist also said that too much unhealthy food is one of the main causes for inflammation of the heart arteries. Once the arteries inflamed, embolism of heart arteries develop.
VARIOUS POST-PRANDIAL STATE
Post-prandial state means that if a person maintains in such a state for a long period of time, it will results in atherosclerosis. Post-prandial states have diferent type as follow:
- Hypertriglyceridaemia in the blood.
- Expansion of the Carotid Intima Media in diabetic patients
- or hyperglycaemia
- or hyperlipidaemia
- An enzyme is able to damage the internal layer of the heart arteries. When the internal layer is injured, the respective arteries will be blocked easily.
Nevertheless, eating and drinking excessively, but at the same time eating a lot of vegetables, will also protect the internal layer of the heart from injuries.
Why high intake of meat will damage the internal layer of the heart arteries? This is because the accumulation of fats and cholesterol in the internal layer will result in the inflammation of internal layer. Once inflammation developed, the internal layer become uneven and fats accumulate on the layer easily. The accumulation of fats in the internal layer is the main factor of the embolism of the heart arteries.
People today eat several meals a day, which means that the body is at the post-prandial state several times a day. As time passes, the internal layer of the heart arterioes will be injured ands finally leads to embolism of the arteries.
THE CAUSE OF THE INFLAMMATION OF THE HEART ARTERIES
High intake of meat and sugar will lead to the inflammation of the heart arteries because:
- Fats and blood sugar will cause the internal layer of the heart arteries to be in oxidative state. This will stimulate at least 125 genes which are able to induce inflamation.
- Blood sugar is also able to stimulate the inflammatory cells in the body.
So, this will stimulate the inflammation of the internal layer of the heart arteries. In other words inflamatory cytokines will be stimulated by blood sugar and cause inflammation.
- The cells are very active
After excessive eating and drinking, the cells in the internal layer of the heart arteries are very active. Besides that, molecules in the plasma will be highly concentrated. Next, inflammatory cells will act on a large scale. This will induce the inflammation of the internal layer of the heart arteries.
- Oxidant state of the heart arteries
After taking food high in fat and sugar, heart arteries will be in an oxidant state and inflammatory state. Thus, the sensitivity of insulin is reduced. In other words, the insulin is not able to enter the cells easily. Over the years, hyperglycaemia develop. In the end, this leads to metabolic syndromes and development of diabetes.
ANTIOXIDANT FOOD SHOULD BE CONSUMED AFTER MEAL
After a meal, digested nutrients circulate in the blood stream. Then, the amount of inflammatory cells, neutrophilic cells and oxidative substanceas will increase significantly in the blood during this time.
Scientists also discovered that consuming a large quantity of vegetables, fruits and fibers is able to resist the "oxidant wave" in the body because they contain antioxidant substances.
If omega-3 fatty acid (fish oil) is also consumed, the risk of cardiovascular diseases can also be reduced, as omega-3 fatty acid can ease the inflammation of the internal layer of the heart arteries.
Oxidant state plays an important role in the development of artherososclerosis. Therefore, a variety of antioxidant health care products are available in the market. They are claimed to be able to prevent chronic disease, including heart arteries disorder.
Nevertheless, is this the truth?
Antioxidant health care product
Not long ago, an experiment indicated that high intake if vitamin E health care products might increase the risk of death.
This is a large scale experiment which revealed that 12,504 people died of high intake of vitamin E health care products. Another discovery showed that many people consumed vitamin E products but no therapeutic effects were observed. Nevertheless, for low intake of vitamin E health care products, such as less than 400iu, the risk of death is significantly reduced.
Therefore, health care products of genuine quality are effective but they can only be consumed after their effectiveness is proved by the Ministry of health or medical specialists. In the meantime, we should be cautious about dosage of consumption of the products.
Obese individual get diseases more easily
Food high in fats and meat will result in obesity where the fats accumulate around the internal organs, especially the abdomen, leading to pot-belly.
Those suffer from obesity are prone to the following diseases:
- When a large amount of fats is accumulated in the organs and abdomen, inflammation on the whole body that do not show any symptoms initially will develop easily.
- They are also prone to the most serious metabolic disorders.
- Those with abdominal adiposity are afected by unhealthy food more easily, leading to inflammation of the internal layer of arteries.
Canadian scientists have carried out an experiment where the participants who are all obese man and women, reduced their intake of fatty food but ate a lot of vegetables and fruits. After 6 years, their weights and waist sizes were reduced.
However, both medical specialists and nutritionists think that it would be good news if diabetetic patient is able to take reliable nutrition supplements that help to reduce blood sugar levels and prevent diabetes.
In recent years, many large pharmaceutical companies discover and produce a variety of drugs which help to reduce blood sugar levels. This is called first line treatment.
